Hi, I'm Debbie

Thank you for taking the time to join me.  I’m Debbie Bassingthwaighte and learning is my life!

Since childhood I’ve had an insatiable appetite and need to learn, and my life passion has been teaching and nurturing others to learn and grow.

I aspire to live my very best life and to empower others to discover their unique gifts and potential.  So, every day that I learn or experience something new is a great day!

My career as an educator spans 40+ years in teaching, special education, university lecturing, workshop facilitation, corporate learning and development, consultancy, coaching and mentoring.  That’s a long list but it’s been such a privilege to touch so many lives in this way.  I love my work and I can’t imagine doing anything else.

Motivated by vivid childhood memories of tasting food plucked fresh from the garden, I enjoy growing, preserving and cooking abundant organic produce with my husband Brodie at our own garden farm.

I feel blessed to live on a peaceful 5 acres in the Lockyer Valley near Toowoomba, where I’m consciously interconnected with nature and community.  I enjoy design, reading, travel, permaculture, nostalgic pastimes, and simplicity.

Optimise Learning is my small, home-based Learning Centre where I’m thrilled to offer a highly-personalised, collaborative approach.  I believe learners deserve a skilled, experienced teacher who cares deeply about individual learning needs.

Teaching and facilitation is my passion and there’s nothing I enjoy more than connecting with others and inspiring confidence and self-belief.  I know the possibilities for learning together are endless when we each feel respected and genuinely valued as unique individuals.

Debbie Bassingthwaighte - Interests and Experiences

I’ve had the great privilege to learn from many inspirational teachers who challenged and stretched my thinking in both formal and incidental learning environments.

I’m a passionate and determined life-long learner and I strive to keep my knowledge and skills current, relevant and responsive to needs.  I read extensively, regularly attend courses and workshops, and proactively learn from mentors and experts.
